A Wedding with a Difference...
"Tantra is the science of turning ordinary lovers into soulmates."

Osho
Tantra is about union.
Shiva unites with Shakti; Consciousness meets Love. When two individuals unite in the presence of love, then a merging happens. Through this personal love, the ego-self can surrender to a higher love. Together we can choose to live in the Reality of Love. And to heal all that is not love. This is the commitment of the Tantric Couple. |

What does a Tantric Wedding look like?
It is completely up to you! What is most important is that it is meaningful and sacred to the couple. It might be a huge event or very small and intimate. It might be in nature, a temple, workshop space or even a nightclub! We will help you find the space that feels right for you, and a theme or colour scheme that resonates.
We will help you both to dive deep into what your relationship is committed to, what this ceremony means to you, your relationship tools and support system as a couple, your relationship agreements and even terms of completion...we are looking not only at a single ceremony, but to the shift in your lives that this rite of passage brings forth and how to prepare for that. Tantric weddings can be for mixed-gender or same-sex unions.
Commitment
A wedding ceremony is about commitment. However, it is not as simple as just committing to each other. It is also about something higher that you as a couple commit to. This might be Love, Source, Truth, God. Committing only on the personal level can be challenging, as our personalities change over time as we grow. Committing to something higher than just our personal selves gives a relationship a lot of room for growth together.
Vows
The most famous wedding vow states "'Til death do us part", which may have served greatly in the past. However, these days many couples wish to be committed to growth and love for as long as this relationship is serving these principles. It is generally no longer believed that a completed marriage is a failed marriage. We want to create a container together, but at the same time we do not want to become trapped inside it! Therefore, it is important that the couple take a lot of time with the vows to consider what marriage union means to them, yet without creating a contract that stifles life! There is an art to this, and it is important for couples to take time.
Symbols
Many symbols appear in weddings across many religions and cultures because they are symbols of two uniting into the One. These include:
- Rings symbolize sacred space, the eternal, commitment. It is a symbol of creating a container together for love and growth.
- Hands tying or binding is a symbol of uniting. The word "hand fasting" is used for a pagan wedding and comes from this tradition of binding the couple together hand to hand from the moment of marriage until they first made love! This hand binding was carried on into Christian weddings. Hindu weddings also use this feature, in which the couple are bund together and walk around a fire. We have known modern tantric couples to use Shibari ropes for this! (also used in erotic tying).
- Flowers and rose petals symbolize the blossoming of love.
- Blessing each other is a feature from Tantra that shows the couple's intention to serve each other's higher self. They may use holy water (from a sacred spring) or aromatherapy oils.
- Drinking from a cup is often used to crate toasts and blessings. It might be alcohol, mead (pagan) or raw cacao (contemporary).
- Jumping the broomstick is a distinctly pagan ritual, use to symbolize entering into a new phase of life. Can also be entering through an archway or gateway or jumping over a fire.
- Being witnessed by one's family and/or community is an important feature of the ceremony as it is about asking for community support in your relationship and also acknowledgement of your union from your tribe.
- The Four Directions is included in pagan and shamanic wedding ceremonies, not only to create a sacred space but also to ask for the blessings of the Universe upon your relationship.
Shiva/ Shakti Blessing Ceremony
Many couples choose to create a ceremony together with their brothers or sisters prior to the wedding. In modern-day marriages, we see this as hen nights or stag nights, often with a lot of drinking! Tantric couples often choose a more conscious gathering, such as a sweat lodge ceremony, bathing rituals, blessings, henna art and so on. Often the theme is letting go of the old life and setting intentions for this new journey. In same-sex unions, each individual can gather with their own circle of friends.
